WANA (Apr 03) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Chamber of Commerce Trade Development Commission stated that the 10% tariff imposed by Donald Trump on Iranian exports has little effect on trade between the two countries.

According to Latifi, Iran’s exports to the U.S. in the first 11 months of 1403 (Persian calendar) amounted to 84 tons, valued at $172,621. These exports were sent directly to the U.S. without passing through intermediary countries.

Official data shows that around 55% of these exports consisted of food products, including dried figs, dried apricots, dried plums, dried bread and dough, saffron, Sohan (a traditional Persian sweet), biscuits, pickles, tomato paste, citrus juice, various seasoned food items, and herbal distillates. The remaining exports included plastic kitchenware, carpets, decorative statues, chandeliers, birthday party supplies, cast iron products, as well as books, magazines, and publications intended for Iranians residing in the U.S.

Latifi emphasized that due to the small volume of these exports and their niche market, the new tariffs would have no significant impact on trade. He also noted that any restrictions on Iranian cultural and food products would, in effect, amount to sanctions against American citizens themselves.
